Fire Prevention Week – 10 Fire Prevention & Safety Tips
Fire Prevention & Safety Tips
Fire Prevention Week in the United States runs from October 4-10, 2020. A fire in or around your home can be devastating. That is why we think it is so important to share our fire prevention and safety tips with you. Your safety will always be our top priority here at Restoration1 1.
1. Make sure you have smoke alarms
Make sure that you have smoke alarms in every room and living area in your home.
2. Inspect your smoke alarms
Inspect your smoke alarms periodically (we suggest once a month) to assure they are working properly and the batteries are healthy.
3. Have a fire escape plan
Have a fire escape plan and practice with your family to make sure everyone knows what to do and where to go in the case of a fire.
4. Have a fire extinguisher readily available
Have fire extinguishers readily available, particularly near the kitchen since that is where a majority of house fires stem from. Also, teach every family member how to use the fire extinguisher in case of an emergency.
5. Keep flammable materials in safe areas
Keep flammable materials in safe areas and out of the reach of children. Space heaters should be at least 3 feet away from anything that is flammable.
6. Turn off decorative lights
Turn off all decorative lights at night and before leaving your home. Especially when you have holiday lights!
7. Don’t overcrowd your outlets
Never plug in too many cords into the same electrical socket.
8. Do not leave your candles unattended
Do not leave candles unattended and always be aware of any other open flames in and around your home.
9. Install safety gates
Install safety gates or other devices around fireplaces, ovens and furnaces, especially if you have small children.
10. Save Restoration 1’s contact info
